BUDAPEST TRAVEL GUIDE
Budapest Travel Guide - Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities in the world and lies on the River Danube in the East of Europe. It developed when the separate towns of Buda, Pest and Óbuda in 1873 amalgamated into the one great city Budapest. The Danube runs through the city so that the two parts Buda and Pest, on opposite river banks, remain somewhat separate. The Royal Castle and district that around it is the key visiting area on the Buda side of the city while the Vaci Street shopping area is a great attractions of the Pest part.
The history of Budapest has had its ups
and downs and there has been many changes in terms of prosperity
and also political developments. Today, the city is made up
of twenty-three districts and streets signs and addresses
are in Roman numerals. Buda is situated to the west of the
overall city - it is on a hill and has lovely narrow cobbled
streets and alleyways, with wonderful historic buildings.
Pest is on the east bank of the Danube and has wide tree lined
avenues, huge almost overpowering buildings - though the wide
boulevards mean the buildings are in keeping with the surrounds.
Budapest is a mixture of architechtural
styles with buildings and monuments from many eras.
Hungary joined the EU in 2004 and Budapest,
particularly since then, has become one of the most popular
city tourist destinations in Europe - and with good cause,
it is a city full of surprises and wonderful historic links.
Budapest Hotels are easily located when you ask for a map at the local tourism office This way you will always find a suitable hotel.
